Budapest is Kraków's twin city!

5 June 2017 has become another important date in the history of Kraków's cooperation with the Hungarian capital. On that day Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski and Lord Mayor of Budapest István Tarlós signed a twin cities cooperation agreement. The cities' relationship was based on a partnership agreement signed in 2005.

Mayor Jacek Majchrowski has been reelected as Executive Bureau Member of CEMR

Between 2017 and 2020 he will serve as an  Executive President and a Policy Committee Member of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR). 

Krakow City organized Conference on EMF

Mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski opened the International Forum Protection from Electromagnetic Environmental Pollution. Right to Information for Citizens on Monday, December 5, 2016 in the Krakow City Hall. The event was attended by leading international and polish experts. Our city is the first in Poland to organize a Conference focusing on the effects of EMF on the environment.


Focus on Senior Citizens

I am pleased to welcome our Polish and foreign guests from partner cities  at this special conference. In 2013, Krakow, as one of the first cities signed the Dublin Declaration which obliges us to act for the benefit of senior citizens. We want to create adequate conditions for seniors to actively and with dignity live through their old age - said Mayor Majchrowski opening the plenary session of the International Conference “Focus on Senior Citizens” held in Krakow on 8-9 November 2016.

The Pope from a Poster! A very special gift for the Holy Father

During the WYD the residents and guests could notice outstanding personages associated with Krakow looking down at them from the citylights. The famous people chosen for the promotional campaign “ Krakow. Cradle of Genius” included also the symbolic no. 1 WYD Pilgrim – Pope Francis. At the farewell meeting held in the Metropolitan Curia on Sunday, July 31, Mayor Jacek Majchrowski handed over this artistic portrait to the Holy Father.

Krakow’s pigeons go to Vatican!

Mayor Jacek Majchrowski presented Pope Francis with 25 ceramic pigeons. The figurines symbolizing the universal Christian values, but also Krakow’s Main Market Square are the personal gifts which will be brought by the Pope to Vatican as souvenirs for his co-workers. It was a souvenir selected by Pope Francis himself from the presented options!

Pope received the key to Krakow’s gates

On Thursday, 28th July, the Krakow Mayor Jacek Majchrowski handed over the symbolic key to Krakow’s gates to Pope Francis. Next, the Pope went to the Błonia Meadows for the Papal welcome ceremony. For the first time in history the Pope chose... a city tram as means of transport to take him to an official meeting!

Pilgrims visit the Municipality of Krakow

On Thursday, July 28, Mayor Jacek Majchrowski met pilgrims from the Californian Lomita who attend the WYD.

Welcoming Pope Francis in Krakow

On Wednesday, 27th July Pope Francis arrived in Krakow where, until Sunday 31st July, he will be meeting young people during the WYD. At the Balice airport, thousands of pilgrims greeted him with songs and dance. In the evening, the Pontiff talked to a great crowd of youth from the papal window at Franciszkańska 3. The tradition is continued!

The participants of the Global Summit of Women visit Krakow

In 2016, Poland hosted the Global Summit of Women, also known as ‘Women’s Davos’. On Monday, June 13th almost 100 summit participants visited Krakow, admiring Poland’s most famous city and meeting its authorities. Mayor Jacek Majchrowski and Vice Mayor Elżbieta Koterba welcomed the female leaders in the beautiful surroundings of the National Museum's Gallery of the 19th Century Polish Art.
